Rare Research Book to Be Presented to Family History Library

Talk and book presentation: Heritage: The A-Z DNA of Belfast & Northern Irish Jewry

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council will host a book presentation to The North of Ireland Family History Society at The Flax Gallery at The Museum at the Mill at their historic Mossley Mill site on Wednesday 17 February at 7pm.

Author Stuart Rosenblatt P.C. FGSI, of the Irish Jewish Genealogical Society (a division of the Irish Jewish Museum), and President of the Genealogical Society of Ireland, has spent 20 years researching not only his own family roots but those of the entire Jewish community in Ireland, dating back hundreds of years. His research for Northern Ireland has resulted in an impressive volume of over 6000 names and additional information going beyond dates of birth and including census information, school and migration records and much more.

Mr Rosenblatt will be presenting a copy of this limited edition book to the North of Ireland Family History Society on Wednesday 17th February. The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Hogg and Deputy Mayor, Councillor John Blair are both invited guests at this event.

Mr Rosenblatt will speak about his research at the event, talking about the Jewish community in Northern Ireland and the interesting stories he has discovered. He said: "Here, away from the uncertainly of Imperial Russia, they found a safe haven to practice their religion and provide for their families. Their contribution to Northern Ireland was phenomenal in business, culture and education".

The book will be presented to the North of Ireland Family History Society. Society President, Rosemary Sibbett, said “This book is extremely rare and it is a privilege to receive it and make it available in our Library and Research Centre. For anyone with Jewish ancestry whose ancestors lived in Northern Ireland, a wealth of information is available in this book.”
